ELIGIBILITY FOR CRB DISCLOSURES

The CRB have asked that we clarify the rules over eligibility for Disclosures. Broadly speaking those who are eligible for Enhanced level Disclosures are those who are engaged in teaching, training, caring or supervisory roles or those who are their managers – this includes the relevant trustees (not necessarily all).

Other people may fall within eligibility for Standard Disclosures but this does not involve people such as administrators, caretakers, receptionists, property stewards or key holders because they do not have direct contact with those who are in the vulnerable groups.

Their contacts are incidental to their job – as would be the case for someone like a shopkeeper. A similar situation pertains for church coffee shops, etc – contact with child customers is not deemed to be sufficiently close to bring one into the eligibility criteria for a Disclosure.

SAFE TO GROW

The new version of Safe To Grow is now available. It has many new sections, such as electronic communication, a step by step guide to handling allegations, risk assessment and up to date information as well as clear guidance on legal responsibility and good practice recommendations . It has been rearranged into an easier format for quick reference.

Safe To Grow is available from the BUGB online bookstore at £8.50. Click here.

Safe to Belong is the only resource available specifically for Baptist Churches concerning working with vulnerable adults. Although there may be some similarities, policies etc, they stand alone as guidance for their respective areas of work.
